Understanding Product Subscription Terms

Subscription pricing is common in the wellness market because it lowers the entry price. The trade-off is that the terms deciding your future charges are agreed at the moment of the first purchase.

Separate the introductory price from the ongoing price

Introductory offers frequently renew at a higher standard rate. Find the renewal amount, the renewal interval and the date of the first renewal before you complete checkout.

Understand trial-to-paid conversions

In a trial offer, the trial period often begins on the order date. If the product arrives a week later, you have less time to evaluate it than the headline suggests.

Know the cancellation path before you need it

Some programs let you cancel in an account dashboard; others require an email or a phone call within a stated notice period. Record whichever method applies, along with any reference number you receive.

  • Where cancellation is performed
  • How much notice is required before the next billing date
  • Whether a confirmation is sent, and how to keep it
  • What happens to shipments already dispatched

Keep an eye on your statement

Descriptors on card statements often differ from the brand name on the website. Note the descriptor from the first charge so future ones are easy to recognize.

If a charge is unexpected

Contact the retailer first with your order number and the cancellation confirmation. If that does not resolve it, your card issuer's dispute process is the next step, and it works better when you can show the documentation.
